On my Knees. Mono
Mono treatment of the Cellarium at Fountains Abbey, North Yorkshire.
This was the first photograph of the Cellarium that I took, making use of a puddle after recent rains, placing the camera on the ground beside it. Though I took many other aspects here, this one is still my favourite. (The colour version is a couple of photos back in my 'stream.)
The Cellarium, as with all the Monastery's interiors, would have been plastered and painted white. Also, it would have been partitioned into sections, so you wouldn't have been able to see from one end to the other, as you can today.
Cistercian Monastery. Founded in 1132, by dissatisfied Benedictine monks from York. Turned to ruins in 1539 by Henry VIII's, "Act of Dissolution of the Monasteries."
Made a World Heritage Site as long ago as 1986.
