Embedded in the stucco on the front of this church are several Zapotec or Mixtec pieces. You can see them mostly on the right side of the entry in this photo. This is a way of them staying in the community and being shared with the community. There are stories of how, when the Spanish came, people quietly spirited off pieces of pre-columbian structures and art, keeping them in their homes. This way they return al pueblo.
