The Huli are the largest ethnic group in the highlands of PNG.
The Huli men are best known for their custom of wearing decorative wigs which are adorned with birds of paradise feathers during their singsings (festivals).
The wigs are created from the hair of young, unmarried men. The men grow their hair for 18 months while eating a special diet and sleeping is a certain posture to ensure a healthy growth of hair.
Once complete the hair is cut and stitched by a wig master and then adorned with shells and birds of paradise feathers.
