Neolithic Axe Engraving
Engraving of an axe - situated on the underside of the capstone in the Merchants' Table burial chamber in Locmariaquer, France. The chamber dates back to 3900 BC, but this particular stone is even older, dating from c. 4300 BC, recycled from a broken menhir. Below the axe, to the bottom left, only just visible are the hind legs of oxen drawing a plough.
