Streets of Chinatown
My contribution to world of 'chinatown shots' ! In this one I was trying to capture that real Eastern feel of these streets brought out by the obligatory Chinese lanterns and architecture of the shophouses lining the streets.
This is temple street which supposedly gets its name from a Hindu temple located at the intersection at one end called the Mariamman Temple. This is the oldest Hindu temple in Singapore, built in 1908. More information here about Temple Street.
Notes: cloned out a distracting crane that was lighting up the background sky. Boost to contrast via curve adjustments. Warmed up slightly via white balance. Note that this is using a rather wide aperture despite it being a 'scape' of a street. Focused on the second row of lanterns which seems to give jst enough depth to the shot. You can still see the blurring out starting at the nearest lamppost. Cropped to 4x5 -I seem to be coming back to this aspect ratio very very often, maybe I should start shooting large format?
