Slender Litter Frog

Sabah Slender Litter Frog (Leptolalax fritinniens) - Danum Valley, Malaysia

 

This is the first Leptolalax species I have posted so far so I'll take a moment to give some info about this genus. Leptolalax is in the Megophryidae family same as the Horned frogs (Megophrys) and the litter frogs (Leptobrachium) that I have posted in the past. Similar to the other two, members of the Leptolalax genus are also sit and wait predators and can typically be found sitting among the leaf litter at night. Interestingly, most Leptolalax species have been reported from very small areas and only a few species have large areas of occurrence, new species are also somewhat frequently described sometimes by new novel species and perhaps more often as a result of a split of a cryptic species. Leptolalax fritinniens is found in lowland rainforests in Sabah. It was recently split from L. dringi and L. gracilis.
