Kicking the bucket
Fresh from our triumph in a production of Samuel Beckett's "Happy Days" some 600 metres underground, Ailbhe and I emerge to take our bows....
Whoa there! I lie! The story here as that we were part of a group hosted by the Russian company EuroChem, who invited us to see progress at the potash mine they are constructing in the Volgograd region. The shaft will eventually reach 1,100 m below ground. To date, the shaft has reached a depth of just over 600 m. Our group was taken down in these large buckets - athritic St_A found the getting into and out of the bucket rather hard work.
