Thomas Jefferson Memorial

This was a first-time sighting, and given the freezing February weather, few tourists were about. The neo-classical building was designed by John Russell Pope, its styling was inspired by the Pantheon in Rome and by Jefferson’s own designs for his home in Monticello and the Rotunda of the University of Virginia.
