Fort Lauderdale International Airport (FLL) is the major hub of low-cost carrier Spirit Airlines. Having read a whole raft of negative passenger reviews and noting too a standard seat pitch of a niggardly 29 inches, I had avoided flying on Spirit. But being sans check-in or carry-on baggage, I was able to bag a cheap $60 r/t fare from TPA, which included a $20 premium for an extra leg-room exit row seat. Coming back, I was in a standard seat, which proved OK for the 35-40 minute flight. With an empty seat alongside, this was in effect a ‘poor person’s business class’.
The Airbus A320 planes were clean and the Spirit gate staff and cabin crew were polite and friendly, which marks them out from my bête noire, American Airlines. So yes, I’ll have no hesitation. In booking Spirit again.
