Dramatic Drax
Just days before I took the train to Hull, fellow Flickerite Lady Wulfrun posted some marvellous wintry scenes of Ratcliffe-on-Soar power station. I was impressed! To my delight, my own opportunity to emulate her came up, but I lost my best moment as I faffed about reaching for my camera. This view is taken from the train window near Hemingbrough, on the border between what is now North Yorkshire (but should by rights be the West Riding of Yorkshire) and the East Riding. A true case of each a glimpse...
Drax has earned plaudits for employing the latest in Flue Gas Desulphurisation (FGD) technology to minimisation emissions of sulphur gases. It is also endeavouring to tackle CO2 emissions by co-firing biomass. Its supply of coal is no longer primarily from the nearby South Yorkshire coalfield but imports via Immingham from Poland, Australia and South Africa, in accordance with prevailing world market prices.
