Ecumenical Evening Prayer, Tilgate

This was an ecumenical (i.e. any Christian denomination) prayer event held at one of Crawley's Catholic churches and attended by people from Catholic, Methodist, Baptist and Anglican churches in the town, particularly those related to the Tilgate and Furnace Green Churches together Partnership.

Evening Prayer is part of a group of daily prayers called the Divine Office. The other prayers are said for morning, day, and night. One advantage is Evening Prayer doesn't require a priest, and no 'collared' clerics were required for this event. Only minor tweaking was required to make the text acceptable to all visiting groups.

Seventyfive people attended. If it looks a bit odd, it's because the altar was moved from its usual position, so we're sitting side-on to the sanctuary in the background. I can't quite remember why we did this but it did enable us to gather round slightly more informally.
