Back when all the buildings were standing (although at this point, many of them were 50% or less occupied). I still can't believe we lived with this forest of high-rises right across the Dan Ryan Expressway.
Back then, the southbound 47th St. exit ramp from the Dan Ryan Expressway started three blocks north of 47th St, with the result that we would come out of the house on Sunday mornings to see cars like this, that had been crashed by their drunken owners over Saturday night. When the exit was rebuilt in 2007, it was moved a block south, so crash scenes like this are practically nonexistent now.
