These commemorative street signs are an unfortunate and persistent legacy of the reign of terror of former 3rd Ward Alderman Dorothy Tillman.
With the city's current alleged money troubles (plenty of TIF money for DePaul University to build a basketball stadium near McCormick Place, though), it's probably cheaper to just leave them up as a reminder of what happens when people listen to (and believe the lies of) a tyrant.
