When Autofocus Doesn't Work

I love the autofocus feature on my lenses, but sometimes it seems like the lens just doesn't want to focus on what you want it to focus on. It really gets confused when your subject is only six inches away, it just can't seem to make up its mind. This is the peanut basket (sleigh). I've never paid much attention to the details on it, but with the hydrangea bokeh, I thought the delicate metal work was worthy of a shoot. In all the frustration, I decided to flip the switch to manual focus, and finally got what I wanted.
