Fine Grain

Another shot of one of my classical guitars. This bw rendition is intended to show off the grain of the wood.

Just so you will know, the wooden top of a classical or acoustic guitar works much like a violin, giving it sonority as the strings vibrate. This guitar's top is made with Canadian spruce, which has a warm tone. Notice how tight and even the grain is. That is by design. In order to get such a grain pattern the wood must be selected from a region where the rainfall is consistent from year to year. The decorative circular feature is called a 'rosette' (little rose). It is created by using inlays of various types of wood.

Strobist: AB Ring Light directly over the subject set at 1/8th power fired with a sync chord.
