Boxes for the Ladies Favours
And for the ladies a handmade box with homemade tablet - no worries about waistlines here! Each box is made from two sheets of A4 paper, one sheet cut to 210 x 210 mm, the second to 200 x 200 mm. The larger becomes the lid (with a heart added for decoration), the smaller the container.
How to make these boxes:
1) Cut the chosen paper to either 210 x 210 mm, or 200 x 200 mm (or other sizes, keeping the one cm difference in size if using US letter paper or another size).
2) Mark the centre of the paper with a cross, simplest done by placing a ruler from diagonal corner to diagonal corner. Figure 1 below.
3) Now take one corner and fold it over so it just coming up to the cross made in 2), I find that bringing the corner to about a millimeter short of the cross works best.
4) With the same corner still folded over to nearly the cross, now fold over the already folded material to bring the outside edge up to the centre cross. Make sure the fold is well pressed down. Figure 2 below, dotted lines indicate fold lines. Now unfold that corner.
5) Repeat the same folding for each of the remaining three corners. The paper should look like Figure 3.
6) For two opposing corners, for each of the two corners make two cuts (a total of four cuts therefore) from the first fold lines on each side of the corner up to, but not into, the centre box. The thick lines in figure 4 represent these cuts.
7) Now turn to the two corners you did not use in 6). Bring each corner up to nearly the centre. You'll get two "wings" pointing out to the sides from each. Use an adhesive (Pritt for example) to stick the pointed ends to what will become the bottom of the box. Fold up the outer diagonal edges so created to make the first two sides of the box, figure 5. The long arcs should be done first, then the shorter arcs represent the construction of the sides.
8) For the final two corners, tuck the wings of the corners created in 7) through 90 degrees and fold a remaining corner over them, and also glue down. Do this for both corners.
9) Repeat the entire process for the second paper size, and you have a bottom and top.
