Federal Express (FedEx) - McDonnell Douglas DC-10-10F (MD-10-10F) - N40061 (c/n 46973/ 272) - Garrett
This DC-10 was delivered new as a standard passenger carrying variant (DC-10-10) to Laker Airways in March 1979 (as G-GSKY). After Laker's demise, it would then enter operation with British Caledonian Airways (BCal) in February 1982 as G-BJZE. It would continue to fly for British Caledonian Charter (BCA Charter), and successor Cal Air International, until January 1988. In January 1988 Novair International started to fly the aircraft (still registered G-BJZE). After Novair, the aircraft was returned to ILFC, who had the airplane converted into an all-cargo configuration (DC-10F / DC-10-10F) in November 1992 (as N591LF). After its conversion to an all-cargo freighter, World Airways operated the aircraft from December 1993 to November 1994 (still as N591LF). Fed Ex would begin flying the airplane as N40061 (now named "Garrett") in November 1994.
The MD-10 designation refers to an upgrade implemented by Federal Express to their DC-10 fleet which allowed for cockpit commonality between the DC-10 and successor MD-11.
