Between Jamie's smarts and sensitivity, not to mention her fluency in Portuguese, her SURF fellowship as an undergrad at Berkeley, her adventurous and curious nature, her natural tendency to fight for the underdog at the same time she so often competes to win, well, let's just say that her presentation, employing a gender, race and class lens on a historical perspective influencing today's relations in Bahia, Brazil,, made a Mom (oh, just SORTA) proud.
