Curracloe Beach 4 (Saving Private Ryan)
Curracloe beach is part of a long stretch of beaches which run along the east coast of County Wexford in south-east Ireland. The area is very popular as a bathing area in the Summers (Irish weather permitting!) and the many kilometers of unbroken beach also provide an ideal walking opportunity.
In 1997, Hollywood came to the area in the shape of Steven Spielberg and Tom Hanks. The beach was used as "Omaha Beach" in the opening 24-minute D-Day landing scene in the film "Saving Private Ryan", regarded by many as the greatest battle scene ever filmed.
The air temperature was about 3 Celcius/37 Farenheit when this was taken, so there's nobody braving the water!
