17 January 2009. Mereworth castle is in private ownership and the only chance to catch a glimpse of this beautiful building through the locked gates is when the leaves are off the trees.
It was built (1720-1725) in the Palladian style for the Honourable John Fane. To do so he had the existing village of Mereworth demolished and moved half a mile to the north west.
