Cotton and I draw ashore at a small hummock in the midde of the marsh in the wide end of the May River. This scrubby patch of land [like Jack's Island in the distance] is covered in scrubby live oak, salt cedar and palmetto. This is in the high marsh, and though usually dry for much of the time is unaccessible due to the sea of muddy marsh surrounding it. This October high tide allowed Cotton and me to paddle close and climb ashore.
Two and a half hours in the kayak and it's good to stretch the legs.
