Small Survivor

Our local swan couple hatched seven cygnets recently. One by one, they disappeared. Perhaps taken by a gull, perhaps by a sparrowhawk, all abundant in our locality. Perhaps avian flu got them, no one but they know.

 

Here is their last remaining cygnet, being taught by its mother to 'dabble'. She's treading the base of the pond to dislodge water weed.

 

Dad was on the other side of the pond, threatening anything and anyone who got close to the water's edge !
