Transvaal daisy
... or Gerbera, named after the German botanist and medical doctor, Traugott Gerber. Dutchman Jan Frederic Gronovius was responsible for naming the genus Gerbera after the physician back in the 1700s.
The flower’s earliest origins are mainly South Africa (hence my title) where you will find some native flowers growing in the wild. They also flourish in the warm parts of Asia, South America and Tasmania.
They're so beautiful, with their classic daisy shape and bold, strong colours. Love them ! Bought three of them from my local florist and took loads of pics, so I shall probably bore you to tears with the different colours.
