The road passed through a lovely green countryside and then abruptly, after a turn, you found yourself in a big deserted square surrounded by old and battered buildings, something you didn’t expect to see in a rural landscape. It was a penal colony built at the beginning of 1800 and dismissed in the fifties. It had to be really a nice place to do one’s sentence, the surrounding fields are a paradise and the climate is fine. Now the land where the prisoners worked is property of small farmers…
