02 Linton Syrup Festival 2010

The Linton Syrup Making Festival. The Saturday before Thanksgiving each year, the old timers in Linton, GA, harvest sugar cane from their fields. The school children come on field trips to watch them squeeze the sweet jiuce from the pulp of the sugar cane with huge presses from the 1900's. Then they build a fire under the wood burning hearths that heat kettles that cook the juice into a thick, sticky syrup. If you get there early enough, there are warm homemade buscuits and sausage to try the syrup on...FREE!
