Loess Cliff, Nebraska

The South Loup River, foreground, has created this "cliff" in loess in the course of eroding its valley, here in Custer County. The "cliff" is about 20 feet high. Nebraska's state tree, the cottonwood, grows on top and is doomed within a few years as the river keeps cutting.
