Pack Lane
Pack Lane is a 2.7 mile (4.3 km) long unclassified road that runs east/west connecting Kempshott in Basingstoke with Oakley. It connects with the B3400, Andover Road at Oakley at the western end and connects with Winchester Road at Kempshott at the Eastern end. However in 1975 when this picture was taken there was a 100 yard (90 m) perminent obstruction at that end so it connected with Buckland Avenue on the Berg Estate.
The road has three distinct sections: the eastern section between Winchester Road and Five Ways (now a Four Ways as Kempshott Lane has been severed at the Kite Hill section) is suburban; the middle section, seen here and known a Battledown is semi rural; and the western section in between Fox Lane and Andover Road in Oakley is suburban again.
Unusually the field on the left is one of the only places left inside the Basingstoke boundary that is still agricultural. However this what used the be a triangular field has since had a small housing estate built in the northern corner.
The large buildings in the distance are the South Ham Extension Maisonette which have since been demolished.
