Looking down from Castle Hill, near the top station of the "Siklo" funicular. The Chain Bridge was the first permanent bridge over the Danube River at Budapest. It was designed in 1839 by William Clark, an English engineer, and opened in 1849. Construction was supervised by Adam Clark, a Scottish engineer who settled in Budapest.
