When A Plan Comes Together

Explore 56.

I took this last Saturday at Nanven beach in the Cot Valley. It was a really hot sunny day until some cloud appeared in the afternoon. I was considering going to the coast for some shots but wasn't sure with the weather closing in. I looked from the top of a hill above St. Ives due South towards St.Just and saw a lovely light pink on the horizon. After taking some disappointing shots from up there I moved on towards the Cot valley. The wind was blowing the clouds away slightly and I was banking on the fact that there was no cloud right above the horizon giving a strong chance that it would light up the clouds later on.

In the end I rushed down there, found a high tide which is a bit annoying as it covers up the best bit of the beach. After a little while the sun popped out from behind the clouds and turned a gorgeous red. The water had that turquoise glow and the light off the rocks was a joy to behold.

I am happy with this shot and felt a real buzz seeing it on the screen. I had variations but this one just had the edge. I have been trying to get to grips with CS4 and am beginning to warm to its charms. More work to do, but I am understanding what's capable the more I use it. I have got into some of the finer details of processing, although I probably haven't quite got it right on this one. Let me know what you think.

There are times when you wait around for light that never appears or drive miles only to find the sun disappears behind clouds, but on this occasion my plan came together!
