Hinamatsuri : March 3rd is celebrated as the Girl's Day or the Festival of Dolls. People display "hina" dolls in ancient court costumes and miniature household articles on a stepped shelf covered with red cloth. Families with daughters wish for their daughters' good health and happiness.

"Nagashi-bina" is an event which is said to be the origin of the Dolls' Festival. Paper hina dolls are set afloat on a river to get rid of girls' bad spirits and troubles.
