These are some of the artifacts that archaeologists found in Jamestown, Virginia. Jamestown was the first British colony in America. The settlers at Jamestown were looking for a product in the America's that they could export for a large profit back to Great Britain. They found their most profitable export to be the sweet
-tasting tobacco that grew easily in the Virginia soil. Archaeologists can assume that the tobacco product became very popular because of these locally made pipes unearthed in Jamestown.

Do some research on the internet about Jamestown and see if there were any other resources that Jamestown exported to Great Britain. Do you see any similarities in the products of Jamestown and the industries we see in our communities today? Have students record their findings and answer these questions in their travel journals.
