Heavenly Grapefruit

Ode to Jaffa

[Heavenly Grapefruit]

 

Grapefruit : Jupiter of the citrus world,

A perfect sphere, so graceful, good.

An equatorial slice, a sudden gush

Of fragrant oil, and spray of acid juice.

Insert serrated knife with surgeon’s skill,

With each incision separate segments.

So fresh and free, they swim in cereal bowl

Where early sunlight sparkles on the surface.

 

The first spoonful of Californian sunshine

Assaults the taste-buds – juices flow - pure heaven.
