Kasimir Malevich. Suprematist Composition: Black Trapesium and Red Square.c.1915

Non-Objective style comes in two flavors: Idealism and Expressionism.

Idealism features the formal principles of Harmony, Uniformity, Pattern, and/or Balance.

Expressionism boldly features Irregularity, Imbalance, Disharmony, Awkwardness, Instability, and even Ugliness.

Sometimes if you look carefully you can find mixtures of Idealism and Expressionism in a single artwork.

Question for ART 101: What aspects of this painting seem to be Idealist, and which aspects seem to be Expressionist?
