Victoria Lock
Named in honour of Queen Victoria this impressive lock, 220 feet long and 50 feet wide, is the first lock on the Newry Ship Canal. Built by William Dargan under the supervision of Sir John Rennie in the 1840’s it is entirely built with Newry Granite with a full set of working lock gates, and associated chains, wheels and bollards. Victoria Lock was the entry point for large, see-going vessels to the Newry Canal from Carlingford lough through the Newry Canal.
