Islamic Cairo
The Rifa'i Mosque is one of the newer mosques in Islamic Cairo. Built between 1869 and 1912 in pseudo-Mameluke style for Princess Khushyar, the mother of Khedive Ismail, it is the final resting place of a number of Egypt's rulers, including Khedive Ismail, King Fuad I and King Farouk 1. Also buried there are Shaikh Ali al-Rifa'i, who gave his name to the mosque, and the last shah of Iran. This photograph shows the tomb of one of King Farouk 1.
