G-BRAC Britannia 253F

This aircraft was delivered to the RAF as XL639 in October 1959 and seved until the drawdown of the Britannia fleet in 1975. It was stored at Kemble in October 1975 until sale to Luton-based Airline Engineering. However it was registered as EI-BDC on 25 April 1977 and flew for Aer Turas and Cyprus Airways, as well as Eurafric. It was sold to Redcoat as G-BRAC on 8 June 1978 and was named "Christian".
It was destroyed when, flying as RY103 BOS-SNN, it crashed after take-off from Boston in severe icing conditions on 16 February 1980, seven of the eight crew losing their lives. The report into the accident suggests that a series of factors led to the event.
