The annual Buddha Mahotsava, a three day celebration filled with cultural and religious activities. More than two lakh (0.2 million) devotees from across the globe attended the 32nd Kalachakra puja, a Tibetan tantric ritual which hopes to bring world peace through a rigorous series of tantric initiations, led by exiled Tibetan spiritual leader, the Dalai Lama at the Buddhist holy site of Bodh Gaya.

 

Bodh Gaya, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is the most holy place on Earth for the followers of the Buddhist faith all over the world. It is the place where Gautama Buddha is said to have obtained Enlightenment (Bodhimandala) in 534 BC.

 

Situated by the bank of river Neranjana in present day Gaya district in the Indian state of Bihar, the history of Bodh Gaya is documented by many inscriptions and pilgrimage accounts. Foremost among these are the accounts of the Chinese pilgrims Faxian in the 5th century and Xuanzang in the 7th century.
