Tutankhamen silver brooch/badge (c.1939)
An attractive lapel badge or dress brooch made in silver and hallmarked by the Edinburgh assay office with the 1939 year mark.
The badge shows the golden death-mask from Tutankhamen's tomb that was discovered in 1922, undisturbed and complete with his burial treasure. The hieroglyphics are valid but was unable to make any sense of their order.
Howard Carter (1874-1939) headed the excavation team that recovered Tutankhamen’s treasure. Tutankhamen was a minor boy king and his tomb was mainly intact when it was discovered. Yet the treasures found within were astounding and hint at what other treasures had been plundered from other pharaoh tombs over the thousands of years.
