Rhode Island, Washington County, Watch Hill Lighthouse
A lighthouse has been at Watch Hill Point since 1808. The present lighthouse was built in 1856 as a replacement for the earlier lighthouse. The Watch Hill Light lighthouses complex has 45-feet tall square, rock-face granite-block tower topped with a cast-iron and glass lantern, attached to a two-story, hip-roof, brick keepers' house with a 1-story ell extending to the rear. The station complex also includes a stuccoed shed originally built as an oil house (1855-56), a brick signal house (early 20th century), and a garage-workshop (1939). The light was automated in 1986 and is an active aid to navigation. The Watch Hill Lighthouse is located in the Watch Hill Historic District listed on the National Register of Historic Places and is contributing property.
