C-141A Starlifter, U. S. Air Force (61-2775), Dover Air Force Base, Air Mobility Command Museum

The C-141 Starlifter manufactured by Lockheed was Introduced to U. S. Air Force units to replace slower piston-engine cargo planes such as the C-124 Globemaster II. The C-141 Starlifter flew in service from the late 1960s to into the early 2000s.

 

The aircraft in the photograph, ordered in 1961, was the first production C-141A Starlifters built and had its maiden flight in late 1963. This C-141A Starlifter spent its career as a test aircraft. (Source: Air Mobility Command Museum web site)
