C-54M Skymaster, U. S. Army Air Force; U. S. Air Force (44-9030), Delaware, Dover Air Force Base, Air Mobility Command Museum

The C-54 was built by the Douglas Aircraft Company. The C-54 was the military version of the Douglas DC-4 commercial transport. It was the first four-engine transport to enter U. S. Army Air Force service. The aircraft in the photograph is a C-54M and is the last surviving “M” model in existence. Only thirty eight M model C-54 were manufactured. The aircraft in the photograph was specially modified during the Berlin Airlift for hauling coal.
