Maryland, Salomon, Calvert Marine Museum, Drum Point Lighthouse (2,181b) and "William B. Tennison"

Drum Point Lighthouse was constructed in 1883 to mark the entrance to the Patuxent River. The screwpile, one and half story hexagonal cottage lighthouse, is one of only three remaining from 45 that were on the Chesapeake Bay. The light was originally built in ten feet of water. Over the years shoreline silting reduced the depth and by the 1970s the light was on dry land. The light was decommissioned in 1962. During 1960s and early 1970s the light was continually vandalized. The light was relocated two miles to the Calvert Marine Museum, restored, and in 1978 open to the public. Drum Point Lighthouse is listed on the National Register of Historic.

The ship to the right of the lighthouse is the "Willam B. Tennison", built in 1899. The ship has a deck that is more than 60 feet long. The Tennison was converted from sail to power in 1909 and served as an oyster buy-boat until 1978. It is reported that Tennison is the oldest Coast Guard licensed log-hull passenger vessel in the United States. The ship is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and is a National Historic Landmark.
