Ravinia Special Follower

Following closely behind the "Ravinia Special", (an extra express train operated on summer Saturdays to serve the outdoor concerts at Ravinia Park) Metra UP-North Line train 823 with METX 137, the 'City of West Chicago' on the point, approaches the Ravenswood station on Chicago's north side. The new track here is part of an ongoing project to replace the many bridges spanning city streets on the line (UP's Kenosha Sub). In order to do this without seriously disrupting train service, new bridges were built on the west side of the right of way in a space which formerly held a third track. While this work was in progress, trains continued using the two main tracks as they had before. Once finished, the new track was opened and the old northbound track was taken out of service. When replacement of the bridges on the east side of the right of way is complete, the rebuilt southbound main will be moved to the old northbound track's position.
