so that's what I look like on the inside!
The day before Christmas eve I took a slip on some ice outside our house and put my arms out to stop the fall - sadly my left arm also hit theice and skidded from under me and I woundup facedown in the snow unable to move with a very very sore shoulder. So off we went to Pinderfields A&E department. They said there was nothing wrong with the shoulder despite me being in *severe* pain at this point (the give away being the first lot of pain killers they gave me didn't work and I'd asked for a second lot!!) So they sent me on my way with a rudimentary sling held together with sticking plaster with instructions that if it got no better to come back. i did ask if they were sure they hadn't missed anything and I think the nurse was a little affronted by this...but I went on to explain it was extrememly sore but she said bruising could be just as sore and that's what I had - severe bruising. She also said that the secondary team would look over the xrays so if they *had* missed anything they would call me back. So we left A&E...traveled down to Wales for Christmas day - with still no ease up in the pain. Boxing Day went to Swindon - againno let up in the pain but as it was only a few days after and bruising takes a while to comeout I thought no more of it. the day after boxing day I was in so much pain that I made my way to the excellent Princess of Wales Hospital (where all three of my kids had been born and where I used to work) After a quick xray the Drcame back and said she wasn't suprised I was in pain - the ball joint at the top of my arm that goes into my socket has a fracture all the way across it! The Doctor pointed it out to me but to be honest I ain't no medical person - all I know is it hurts - a lot - but the fracture is the line that runs across the middle of the ball apparently) So one proper sling fitted to my arm correctly (a nice soft foam one that doesn't cut into my neck too!!) and some super strength pain killers later and I was sorted. Only problem was - with being in so much pain and beingslightly grumpy all I wanted to do was get home and into my own bed! So we cut the hol a bit short. When I took the xrays into Pinderfields as instructed they a) made me wait in A&E whilst they *checked* the xrays over for an hour, then dumped me back int he waiting room for another 30 mins whilst they made their minds up whether to send me to the fracture clinic or not for a follow up appointment - it was only when I got shirty that they got me an appointment - and guess what - not ONE SINGLE person apologised for missing the fracture. Not one. Hey ho - that the over stretched, under resourced NHS for ya I suppose! ;-)
Cracking Christmas Gromit! lol!
