San Antonio de Padua (Calamba , Cebu City)
Owned by the late Consolacion Estela. She had this image since she was a little girl given to her by her parents. When she grew up, she built a chapel in honor of Señor San Roque and also to San Antonio de Padua located across University of San Carlos - Girls High School known as San Antonio Village. She was forced to destroy her chapel per demand of the lot owner. and transferred to a small lot in A.Lopez Street, Cebu City. and built a chapel in honor of San Antonio de Padua. Years after the chapel was burnt down. All was burnt inside the chapel including the 100 year old images of San Roque, Nuestra Senora de Consolacion and Santo Niño de Cebu. But miraculously the image of San Antonio de Padua was spared. They transferred to another lot in Katipunan, Cebu CIty and built another chapel in honor of St. Anthony de Padua.
Rumors has it that this saint, San Antonio de Padua is commonly known by the natives as San Antonio nga Walay Kalo-oy ( St Anthony of no mercy) because it was a practice long time ago, that wives who were treated badly by their husband rush to the chapel and invoke to St. Anthony for revenge thru the lighting of black candles. piercing the candle with pins and needles with the picture or names written in papers of their husbands and waving it infront of the image and saying their prayers for revenge or curses to their husbands.
But it brought attention to the Church of the ill practices done by mothers and wives. and instead of cutting the tradtion of invoking the intercession of the saint. instead, they changed the black candles into white and symbolizing the color for good intentions. and another candle colored brown for Petitions and favors to be asked in line with the color of the garments of the saint.
Feast day is celebrated every June 13. Masses are also celebrated in the chapel every First Tuesday of the Month.
