Proposals submitted to Edinburgh City Council for the demolition of the Victorian building dating from c.1859 by property developers Audley were refused (14th Jan 2021). However, the Scottish Government reporter has decided" that planning permission will be granted provided an agreement under Section 75 of the Town and Country Planning (Scotland) Act 1997 is reached between the planning authority and the appellant."

The plans are for around 100 studio apartments over five floors (including lower ground). The student accommodation block is designed to be 'car-free'.

Note this Edinburgh Live report (18 Nov 2021) has inaccuracies. The building was originally a church manse and it is not abandoned. The owner simply decided not to reopen after the Covid-19 lockdown.
