printing oak leaves

We learnt how to make a card printing block with string dipicting the veins of the leaf. The double print is made by printing the veins and then the whole of the leaf. We experimented by printing the veins before and after the background and then paining some of the leaves with fabric dye. We decided the most effetive was to print the veins and then paint in the background with a mixture of yellows and blues with a touch of red. By mixing the colours we were able to produce rich autumn shades. Learners suggested the leaves could be enhanced with stitch. Some learners took leaves home to explore the stitch ideas.
