Morning cafe in my neighborhood - now PERMANENTLY CLOSED

I found a story about this cafe and its closing on line, from one of the Madrid newspapers:

From "el Diario, May 26, 2021":

"The Diadema Pastry Shop closes after 45 years sweetening the daily life of Malasaña

"The Diadema Pastry Oven, a classic on Espíritu Santo street, will close next Sunday, May 30. Although the generational change had been contemplated , finally with the retirement of María Luisa Sánchez, and in the absence of an agreement with the current owners of the premises in which it is located, the end of this trade that has sweetened the day to day of Malasaña for 45 years.

"Two of the four children of María Luisa Sánchez and Manolo, the other half of Diadema and retired two years ago, were willing to continue this profitable family business with a loyal clientele. However, when it comes to renegotiating a new rental contract, the economic differences between property and tenants have been insurmountable.

Our contract is for an old rental and with my retirement it was time to review it. We offered to buy the premises from the owners or rent it back, but they are asking for too much money. Knowing what this business gives of itself, it is unfeasible to assume the amount they intend to receive ”, says a María Luisa who could have already retired last December, but who has stretched the arrival of her well-deserved rest as long as possible.

“I will continue in the neighborhood, since I live opposite Diadema, at number 5 of Espíritu Santo, but from now on I will spend much more time with Manolo in the country house that we could afford, in a town in Toledo, thank you to the work of all these years; listening to little birds and cicadas”.

"Always very committed to Malasaña, historic members of the neighborhood movement that in the 80s of the 20th century organized sports competitions for the neighborhood kids who participated in the citizen patrols against the heroin sellers that sowed the area with zombies and corpses, as well as insecurity, María Luisa and Manolo, Diadema, will formally say goodbye to their "fantastic clientele" this Saturday offering them something to snack on and drink at the door of their establishment, taking advantage of the closure to traffic of the Espíritu section. . ."
