Had a new 1/4-size violin, inexpensive, that I intended for my rental fleet. The fingerboard was terrible, a ski-jump. Lacking any common sense at all, I pulled the bad fingerboard off, fit a new one to the fiddle, all as an excuse to try my hand at inlay.
A scrap bit of bone, left-over from a guitar-nut blank. I placed it in the center, but drifted a bit as I did the inlay, something to look for if I do this sort of thing again.
Added a bit of simple scratch engraving. Cut a bridge, put on a Wittner tailpiece and decent strings. Will serve some child well, I think.
But it's not a paying gig.
