this is a $2 mardi gras mask I bought in New Orleans years ago (maybe 2004). You could buy these from any number of vendors in the French Market, but also in the French Market area was an artisan shop where you could watch mask makers actually making the sophisticated and incredibly intricate real mardi gras masks. They were all gorgeous and truly unique pieces of art. And the cheapest ones were more than $100. Looking back, I wish I had bought one, but I'll have to do with this inexpensive copy. I guess it's all about the memories, anyway.
